The front of each pillow has symbols in black. The front of the square pillow has a center button and tassel. The long or lumbar pillow has black piping. The back of each pillow is made of white linen and closed with an invisible zipper.

The mud cloth is made from handwoven strips of cotton imported from Mali in Africa. Made one at a time from a process originated by village women centuries ago, it is a labor-intensive technique which uses tannin and clay to shape it and tell stories and history with symbols.
